Camp Kick-Off and Senior High Camp
Camp Kick-off will follow the Walk-a-Thon. The Kick-off is always a great way to start the summer camp season! As parents bring their teens for senior high camp, and supporters of the camp and friends gather, there is an air of excitement for the camp season. Everyone is encouraged to join the fun – a BBQ and drinks will be provided and will be served around 5:00 pm. Please bring a small salad or dessert to help out.
Senior High Camp check-in time is 4:00 pm. Campers will participate in the BBQ and will start their camp week at 7:00 pm for chapel. Parents and friends are encouraged to stay for a bonfire and the campers can join in after chapel, depending on the dean’s schedule.
Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser
Over the past few years at OCA, the Annual Walk-a-Thon has helped to raise money for special projects. Our last Walk-a-Thon supported a fantastic play structure for the children. A youth group came to help erect the structure and volunteers came to mix concrete, level the structure, weld some of the steel joints and install the walls that contain special mulch to absorb any falls from the climber. This spring, phase two will focus on the younger children’s play area under the pines adjacent to the pavilion. There will be an area to sit and play, as well as some Tiny Tykes play toys. This project was made possible via walk-a-thon supporters and a generous individual donation. The climber is already providing many hours of fun for the younger campers!
The Walk-a-Thon this year will support making an area for the older campers to play basketball. The court will be paved and placed between girls’ cabin three and the garage. There will be a permanent basketball net placed on the west side of the court and a portable one on the east side, so the court can be used as a turn about if necessary for larger vehicles, like fire trucks or garbage bin trucks. This year the Walk-a-Thon will be held on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the camp and will be part of the Summer Camp Kick-Off. The walk is 5 km around and through trails at the camp.
Our last Walk-a-Thon (2020) raised $6,000. It was held at a time when participation was down due to health concerns and safety. This year, OCA is hopeful to raise much more as participation numbers should be much higher!
If you are older and concerned with the distance or terrain and want to participate, a shorter route, flatter route along the roadway is provided. Supporters can donate on a per kilometer walked or a flat donation for the walk. Donations of $20.00 or more will receive a Charitable Receipt.
